I came across this article on a new type of smart lighting being developed at Boston University. It seems they have figured a way to use the light from LED’s to transmit data. No wires, no mess, acting like radio waves, light sends and receives information from devices such as your computer, phone, and thermostat, creating another use for the LED’s. Because light doesn’t travel through walls, the information would be secure, eliminating some of the privacy problems associated with other wireless solutions. Look out WiFi.

Since we are on lighting. Here is another site by a group called [re]design who’s mandate is to keep garbage out of landfills. They hold an event called Lighten Up that features sustainable lighting designs. Here is the site, check out the exhibitor links… http://www.redesigndesign.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=413&Itemid=999
